Empowering Kids with Lifesaving Skills: How Early Learners Are Loving the Sick Sense Squadrons Incursion

At The Sick Sense, we believe that even young children can learn essential first aid skills—and the response has been amazing! Since the launch of our Sick Sense Squadrons program, children are not only loving it, but they're also thriving as they become members of the squadrons themselves, ready to tackle sickness, injuries and emergencies with confidence.

Why Early Learning Centres and Preschools Should Bring the Squadrons to their Centre? There's a common misconception that kids are too young to learn about first aid. However, children as young as four are already mastering foundational health skills, and we’re seeing incredible enthusiasm in our Sick Sense Squadrons workshops. Educators have shared how the children are quickly grasping foundational safety concepts, from knowing when to get help to staying calm in small accidents. The results? Kids are more confident, empowered, and ready to act when sickness and injuries arise—no matter how big or small.

Aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework: The Sick Sense Squadrons program has been carefully designed to align with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), ensuring that the learning experiences meet the developmental milestones of young children. By focusing on core areas such as well-being, confidence, and social responsibility, the program supports the holistic development of each child, fostering not only their first aid skills but also their emotional and social growth.

The Power of Learning Through Play: The program's success comes from its interactive, play-based approach. Children aren’t just learning first aid—they’re having fun! By engaging in squad-based activities and role-playing emergency scenarios, kids are building important life skills in a way that feels exciting and relevant to them. These hands-on activities help children connect emotionally with the concepts, making them more likely to remember and implement their new skills.

What Educators Are Saying: Educators are loving the immediate impact the program is having on their students. Many have noticed how children are already applying their foundational first aid knowledge in daily interactions. Whether it’s asking for help when they see someone in distress or reassuring their peers during minor injuries, the children are demonstrating the confidence to act calmly and responsibly.

A Brighter, Safer Future for Kids: By incorporating first aid education at an early age, we’re not only teaching kids how to respond in emergencies but also fostering a generation of compassionate, proactive individuals. The Sick Sense Squadrons program is helping young children feel prepared, brave, and knowledgeable—traits that will stay with them for life.

We couldn’t be more excited to see how the kids are embracing their roles as Sick Sense Squadrons members, and we look forward to watching them continue to grow into confident little lifesavers.
